The aims and ideas in assessing learning are simple, but the issues surrounding these simple ideas are complex, wide-ranging and inter-related. We thus have to look at the whole learning ecosystem; learning and teaching, curriculum, and assessment. The skills we want our young people to learn for tomorrow’s world come from across the curriculum and are the responsibility of every teacher – so a key issue is professional development. No education system can be better than the quality of its teachers.
