Studies in neuroscience have demonstrated that whe information is presented orally, people remember about 10% when tested three days later. If an image is added to the presentation, however, the retention rate increases to 65%. Today’s Web 2.0 landscape has altered the informal learning environment, presenting opportunities for visual content. UNESCO EduInfo interviews Anne Njenga, a national leader in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) in Kenya. Njenga has worked in research and curriculum development for the Kenyan government, published widely, and evaluated hundreds of programs countrywide and in other African countries. Today she runs the Mwana Mwende organization, which trains ECCE trainers to diploma level.
