Writing in For the Love of Learning, education policy expert, professor, and author Pasi Sahlberg moves beyond discussing Finland’s extraordinary schools to examine the GERM that is making most other school systems sick: that is, the Global Education Reform Movement. Sahlberg notes that GERM infections have various “inconvenient” symptoms–including competition within education systems, so-called school choice, and standardized testing. He not only explains the problems inherent to each symptom, he notes that healthy school systems are resistant to GERM.
