The Chronicle of Higher Education ponders the use of badges as alternatives to grades, which can suffer from inflation and also lack the ability to convey specific qualifications to potential employers. The Chronicle points to Mozilla’s education-badge project–which provides a platform for students to display badges on their websites–and to the project’s leader, Erin Knight, who says that grades shift students’ goals from learning to earning.
