Zimbabwe has overtaken Tunisia as the country with the highest literacy rate in Africa. According to the United National Development Program, Zimbabwe now has a literacy rate of 92%, up from the previous rating of 85%. The unity goverment, formed last year between President Robert Mugabe and Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, with the help of donors, currently is involved in a large-scale project to print textbooks, which would bring the pupil/textbook ratio to one for every subject before the end of the year.Source: Daily Nation [Nairobi, Kenya]
