The Obama administration has released proposed regulations to end federal student aid to for-profit colleges whose graduates do not earn enough to repay their loans. Most for-profit programs receive the majority of revenues from federal student aid, and so the regulations could shut down programs whose students have the most debt and the least likelihood of finding gainful employment. While for-profit colleges have lobbied against the new rules, the coalition of education, student, and consumer groups working toward regulation would encourage even tougher restrictions. Final ruling on the proposed regulations will take place in November.Source: The New York Times
