U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan today announced proposed reforms to improve teacher preparation programs, better preparing educators for classroom success. The Department’s plan has three core elements: 

  • Reduce the reporting burden on schools of education and states. 
  • Initiate a Presidential Teaching Fellows program to provide scholarships for future leaders.
  • Provide more support for institutions that prepare high-quality teachers from diverse backgrounds.
