With the academic year set to begin this week, thousands of teachers, parents, students, and activists demonstrated last weekend against China’s proposed national education, also called “patriotic education,” in Hong Kong schools. Organizers said that there were 40,000 protesters, while police in the semiautonomous Chinese city reported approximately 8,000 protesters.
