Thousands of striking university academics in Sri Lanka continue their three-month strike with a five-day cross-country march to demand a 20% pay increase, greater academic freedom, and an increase in funding for education. While agreeing to some demands, the government says it cannot grant the pay increase because doing so would create discrepancies and anomalies in the national salary structure.The three-month strike has crippled state-run universities, though they do remain open.
