Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS), Scotland’s largest teachers’ union, is asking its members to consider striking over exams that will make up a portion of the country’s new Curriculum for Excellence. The exams are scheduled to replace Standard Grade and Intermediate qualifications from 2013-14. An audit published last week by the government agency Education Scotland said most schools are ready for the new exams, but teaching unions claim that Education Scotland’s survey was “a whitewash” because many rank and file teachers were not consulted.
