The 2012 U.S. National Survey on STEM Education published by Interactive Educational Systems Design reveals that funding for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education is just one significant barrier to better STEM integration in schools. According to the survey, the key challenges facing STEM education include insufficient K-12 funding specifically designated for STEM education (48%), lacking or inadequate K-8 STEM education (47%), and insufficient professional development for STEM teachers (46%).
