England’s would-be teachers will be subjected to screening checks to ensure they are suitable to work in the classroom. The assessment is designed to ensure that new staff are equipped with the organizational skills to plan lessons properly and with the “emotional resilience” to cope with pressure and badly behaved children. 

This move comes as part of a wider overhaul of the teacher training system in England. Ministers are also introducing more rigorous literacy and numeracy tests.
