Australia’s Teach Next is a $15.9-million initiative that will establish a new employment-based pathway into teaching for up to 395 skilled and experienced professionals who are seeking a career change into the teaching profession. Teach Next will build on the reforms being implemented through the Smarter Schools National Partnership for Improving Teacher Quality, which aims to improve teacher quality and raise the status of the teaching profession. Teach Next will play an important role in addressing areas of teacher shortages in regional and hard-to-staff schools and in reducing the number of teachers currently teaching outside their subject areas.
