Education organizations are using South Africa’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup to highlight a global campaign to get millions of children to school. As highlighted by the Global Campaign for Education and its 1GOAL initiative, 72 million children worldwide do not attend school, and half of them live in Africa. A 1GOAL Education Summit has been set for July 7 in Cape Town, during which world leaders will draw up an education-for-all “road map” to get every child on the path to school by the next World Cup in 2014. The 1GOAL event marks the first time a sporting event has been backed up by a political summit.Source: BusinessDay
