Before joining the Steinhardt School, I was dean of the Boston College Lynch School of Education and a professor of counseling and developmental psychology at Boston College. I serve on numerous boards, including the American Psychological Association's Board of Educational Affairs and the boards of journals such as New Ideas in Psychology and the Journal of School Choice, and I've published over 90 book chapters and journal articles.I currently oversee 12 academic departments, consisting of more than 6,700 students and 250 faculty. I also hold the rank of Professor in the Steinhardt Department of Applied Psychology, where I teach graduate and undergraduate classes. My major research interests include intellectual and ethical development, values and conceptions of the moral self, human rights education, professional and feminist ethics, and inter-professional collaboration. With the upcoming reauthorization of IES, I believe this is the time to look at bridging the "clinic to classroom" gap in education research.
