The Global Education Conference (GlobalEdCon) is a collaborative, inclusive community initiative involving students, educators, and organizations at all levels. It is designed to increase opportunities for building worldwide education-related connections while supporting cultural awareness and recognition of diversity. 

Last year’s conference featured 340 general sessions and 18 keynote addresses, with more 10,000 participant log-ins worldwide. This year’s third annual GlobalEdCon is a free week-long online event sponsored by the International Education and Resource Network (iEARN), which runs its annual international conference in conjunction with GlobalEdCon.

Conference keynotes for 2012 include Sasha Barab, professor In the Teachers College at Arizona State University; Hassanatu Blake, cofounder of Focal Point Global; Jenny Buccos, director, producer, and series creator of ProjectExplorer.org; Gavin Dykes, senior director of international relations for the New Media Consortium, fellow of Education Fast Forward, and program director for the Education World Forum; Dale Dougherty, cofounder of O’Reilly Media; Larry Johnson, acknowledged expert, published author, and speaker on the topic of emerging technology; Beth Kanter, author of Beth’s Blog: How Nonprofits Can Use Social Media; Michael Trucano, the World Bank’s senior ICT and education-policy specialist; and Tony Wagner, Innovation Education Fellow at the Technology & Entrepreneurship Center at Harvard University.

Conference strands include Innovation Perspectives, developed in partnership with EdSurge and GETideas.org to showcase technology-driven innovation that connects students, educators, and education leaders. This strand includes the following sessions, all times Pacific:
